Born on May 20th, 1967, in the Coffee Capital of Vietnam, Buon Ma Thuot, Hien Lee came to the US at the young age of 16, with his mother and two brothers. Upon his arrival, he was enrolled into Roberto Clemente high school, where he would attend school during the day and work labor jobs at night. With his family suffering from serious money problems, after two years in school, he had no choice but drop out of college and work full time to take care of his family. He would work double and triple shifts, as a busboy/dishwasher/cook, and only sleep a few hours a night. Spending these countless hours at work, eventually the restaurants became his new schools. He started to learn the business, and started to become inspired, until one day an idea came to light. “Save money, learn as much as possible, and have my own restaurant”. He made this his mission!
A few years later he went back to Vietnam to visit family and meets an amazing woman, who is now his wife.. When they come back the US, he becomes a cross country truck driver, for the extra income. He needs the income to help him complete his mission. For over a decade he keeps dedicated, focused, and continuously learning, till one day in 2007, it finally happens! Hien Lee, the young boy who came to the U.S. with practically nothing, but a will to survive and the determination to take care of his family, is now a man and owner of his very own restaurant, Pho-Viet!
Has it been easy for him? No! From having to deal with the recession of 2008, to always working on perfecting his secret Pho recipes, he will tell you “Definitely not! But I never give up!”.
Lee now has a new mission. His mission is to prove to everyone that his Vietnamese recipes are the best, and from all the 5 star ratings and reviews that he has been receiving, that mission is well on its way to be completed!
So we invite you, and your family and friends, to come to Pho Viet! Come try what years of love and dedication have created! We are confident that you will love each and every item that’s on the menu!
